Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the main features of both charts. You successfully identify the key trends, such as the dominance of private studios and the age-related differences in dance styles. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting. For instance, you mention 'Ballet had the greatest number of students under 11 was 600', which is grammatically awkward and slightly confusing. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons are more clearly linked to the data provided and avoid over-generalizing. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant differences between the two charts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific charts. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'As for Community halls & other dance classes accounted for 18%'. Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this group', 'the same') is always clear would enhance the flow of the text and help achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrate', 'percentage', and 'accounted for'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'more people attended in the private studios' (should be 'attended private studios') and 'the lowest attending in the location of' (should be 'the lowest attendance'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Examples include 'more people attended in the private studios of 48%', 'more the age group 11-16 were in modern dance classes', and 'the students of under 11 was well above 500'. These errors involve subject-verb agreement, preposition usage, and sentence construction. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence structure and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
