Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing both charts and identifying key features. You successfully highlight the dominance of private studios in the pie chart and contrast the age-related trends in the bar chart. However, the analysis is slightly hindered by some imprecise reporting of data. For instance, stating 'the greatest number of students under 11 was 600' is accurate, but the comparison for Tap dance classes is vague ('well above 400'). To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the specific categories and that comparisons are more precise and analytical rather than just listing figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'However', 'According to', and 'As for' to guide the reader. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two charts, which helps the reader follow the structure. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the connection between sentences is smoother, particularly when moving between the two different data sets.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrate', 'proportion', and 'age group'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'more people attended in the private studios' (should be 'attended private studios') and 'the lowest attending in the location of' (should be 'the lowest attendance was in'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns related to data trends would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'more the age group 11-16 were in modern dance' (missing 'of') and 'the students of age 11-16 was' (subject-verb agreement error). Additionally, some sentences are slightly fragmented or lack necessary prepositions, such as 'the lowest attending in the location of College-based studios'. While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions when describing data.
