Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the charts but struggles with accuracy and clarity. While it identifies the main features, the data interpretation is often incorrect or confusing. For example, stating that 'modern dance classes' have '520 percent' is a significant error in data reporting, as percentages cannot exceed 100. Additionally, the description of the locations is disjointed, and the comparison between age groups is difficult to follow. The response lacks a clear overview that synthesizes the information effectively, and the data points cited are frequently inaccurate, which hinders the reader's ability to understand the trends presented in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as the transition 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', which do not effectively link the ideas. The referencing is frequently unclear; for instance, it is difficult to determine what 'other' refers to in the context of locations. The sentences often feel like a list of disconnected facts rather than a cohesive summary. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary flow to guide the reader through the data points logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'acquire the largest place' and 'acquire least space', which do not accurately describe the data. The word choice is repetitive, and there is a lack of precision in describing statistical trends. The misuse of terminology, such as 'land' to describe a chart category, indicates a limited grasp of appropriate academic vocabulary. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise terms for describing data, such as 'account for', 'proportion', or 'majority'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'ballet contain' and 'it have'. The sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'young people age from 11 to 16 achieve his highest number'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. The lack of control over basic grammatical rules, such as pluralization and verb tense consistency, significantly limits the score in this criterion.
