Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified some main features, such as the popularity of private studios and the contrast between ballet and modern dance, the analysis is incomplete. The final sentence is cut off mid-thought, and the data regarding dance styles is not fully presented or compared. To improve, ensure you provide a complete overview of all data points and extend your analysis by making more detailed comparisons between the categories provided in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a basic manner, such as 'According to the charts' and 'Meanwhile', but the lack of a concluding summary and the abrupt ending disrupt the flow of information. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that ideas are linked smoothly using a wider range of cohesive devices to guide the reader through your analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'market share', 'dominated', and 'popular' being used correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are also minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'teenager' instead of 'teenagers' and 'other having' which is grammatically awkward. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'account for', 'constitute', or 'the vast majority', and ensure consistent use of plural forms when referring to groups.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. For example, the subject-verb agreement in the opening sentence ('chart... illustrates') is incorrect, and there are punctuation issues throughout. The sentence structure is mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. The incomplete final sentence also demonstrates a lack of control over sentence construction. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct pluralisation, and practice combining simple sentences into more complex structures using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
