Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task well. You successfully identified the main features of both the pie chart and the bar chart, providing clear comparisons between locations and age groups. The overview is concise and effectively highlights the key trends, such as the preference for private studios and the age-related differences in dance styles. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurately described; for instance, you mentioned '600 individuals' for ballet, but it is important to ensure such figures are clearly linked to the specific visual data provided. Overall, the information is well-selected and logically presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the two charts, which helps the reader follow the analysis. Cohesive devices such as 'While', 'Additionally', and 'On the contrary' are used to connect sentences, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but there is room for more sophisticated linking phrases to improve the flow between sentences. The overall structure is coherent and supports the information presented.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'variety', 'occupied', and 'individuals' appropriately. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'variety of dance classes are different' (should be 'varies') and 'highly preferred location... makes up about 48%' (which is grammatically awkward). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'predominant', 'proportion', or 'fluctuation', to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'The pie chart and the bar chart given shows' (subject-verb agreement error: 'show') and 'The highly preferred location... makes up about 48%' (missing a subject or verb connection). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are fragmented or lack proper coordination. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that every sentence has a clear main clause will help improve your accuracy.
