Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state that Modern dance for the 11-16 age group is '520%' and Ballet is '300%', which are impossible figures and suggest a misunderstanding of the data labels. While you attempt to compare the locations and types of dance, the lack of precision in interpreting the figures hinders the clarity of the report. To improve, ensure you carefully check the units (e.g., number of students vs. percentages) and avoid misrepresenting the data provided in the charts. The overview is present but lacks the necessary analytical depth to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and sometimes awkward, such as the repetitive use of 'while' and 'meanwhile' within the same sentence. The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly when transitioning between the location data and the dance type data. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the logical connection between the two charts is more explicitly stated.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'largest', 'highest', and 'lowest'. There are also issues with word choice and spelling, such as 'Bailet' (Ballet) and 'site' (location). The attempt to use more academic vocabulary is hindered by these errors and a lack of precision. To improve, focus on using more varied descriptors for trends and ensure accurate spelling of key terms. Expanding your vocabulary to include synonyms for 'increase', 'decrease', and 'proportion' would significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'Private studios is' and 'college-based studios containing'. Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary parentheses and commas used incorrectly. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to run-on sentences or fragments. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that punctuation is used to clarify rather than confuse the reader. Reducing the number of simple errors will help improve your overall score.
