Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends in both charts and selected relevant data points to support your descriptions. The comparison between the two age groups in the bar chart is well-handled, highlighting the reversal in popularity for dance types. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are fully integrated into the narrative rather than just listing them. For example, when discussing the location of dance classes, you could more explicitly contrast the dominance of private studios against the minor role of college-based studios to provide a more analytical summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that separate the two charts. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you use cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'in addition', and 'regarding' effectively to link sentences and paragraphs. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the information flows well from one point to the next. To improve further, you could use a wider variety of cohesive devices to connect the two body paragraphs more fluidly, perhaps by using a transitional phrase that links the location data to the age-related preferences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'largest proportion', 'pattern is reversed', and 'illustrates' are used appropriately. There is a good attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary related to data reporting. To move into the higher bands, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items. For instance, instead of 'most popular', you could use 'predominant' or 'favoured', and instead of 'fewest attendees', you might use 'the lowest participation rate'. The current vocabulary is accurate and fits the context well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Your control over grammar is generally strong, with very few errors. You successfully use comparative structures and accurate prepositional phrases. The punctuation is also handled correctly throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, you could incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as passive voice constructions or participle clauses (e.g., 'With private studios accounting for 48%, they remain the most popular choice'). Overall, the writing is clear, accurate, and easy to follow.
