Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the most and least popular locations and dance types. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention percentages, the comparison between age groups is underdeveloped. For instance, you note that ballet is popular among children under 11, but you do not fully contrast this with the 11-16 age group beyond saying it is 'less popular'. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the categories and that comparisons are more precise. The overview is present but lacks a clear synthesis of the trends shown in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on location and dance types. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In the terms of' are non-standard, and the transition between sentences can feel abrupt. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'Ballet dance which was most popular in people who were not adult', where the phrasing is awkward and hinders the flow of information. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher score. There are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect collocations, such as 'preposition that related on' (likely meant 'information regarding') and 'less eminent' (where 'less popular' or 'less common' would be more appropriate). You also use 'individual' and 'people' repetitively. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the errors in word choice occasionally draw attention to themselves, indicating a need for more natural and varied expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('Ballet dance which was', 'Tap dance were'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('whose were under 11', 'this kind dance'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar structures prevents the text from achieving a higher score. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and ensuring that relative clauses are constructed correctly. The errors do not completely impede communication, but they are noticeable throughout the text.
