Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of both charts and provided relevant comparisons. You covered the location distribution and the age-related trends in dance types. However, the reporting of data is occasionally confusing, particularly in the final paragraph where the description of the 'Modern' dance category is unclear and lacks precision. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the correct categories and age groups, as the current explanation of the 'Modern' dance figures is difficult to follow and does not accurately reflect the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Whereas' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the comparison between 'Modern' and 'other' is confusing. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'attendance', 'percentage', and 'studios'. However, there are several spelling errors ('attendnce', 'clsses') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'as for college-based studios are considered the least attendance'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. To improve, focus on using more varied reporting verbs and precise collocations to describe trends and data points, and ensure you proofread for basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('location of dance classes are seen') and awkward sentence construction ('The first and second chart depicts'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the misuse of prepositions and articles occasionally hinders clarity. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they remain error-free will help you achieve a higher score.
