Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is incomplete and lacks the necessary depth to fully address the prompt. For instance, the description of the data is fragmented and lacks a clear overview of the trends. The figures provided are sometimes confusing, particularly the references to 'age group 11' and '11 to 16', which do not clearly reflect the data provided in the charts. To improve, ensure you provide a comprehensive summary that covers all categories and clearly contrasts the data points rather than just listing numbers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction and a summary, the body of the text is a single, dense paragraph that jumps between the two charts without clear transitions. Cohesive devices are largely absent, making the sentences feel disconnected. To improve, use clear paragraphing to separate the two charts and employ linking words such as 'in contrast', 'furthermore', or 'conversely' to guide the reader through your comparisons. Referencing is also mechanical, which hinders the flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'proportion', 'number', and 'interested'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'younger generation in Australia are attending recently', which is not idiomatic. The phrasing 'on same level' is also imprecise for describing statistical data. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'a significant majority', 'a marginal percentage', or 'the figures for X are comparable to Y'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the higher proportion of youngsters are joining', and awkward sentence structures, for example, 'the community halls only being used 18%'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of complex sentence structures and ensure that your verb tenses and prepositions are used accurately to describe the data.
