Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts, such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance types. However, the response lacks a clear, analytical overview. The summary provided is somewhat repetitive and lacks a cohesive synthesis of the data. While you have reported the figures accurately, the comparison between the two charts could be more sophisticated. To improve, ensure that your overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing data points. Additionally, ensure that you use accurate terminology; for example, you referred to 'bullet dance' instead of 'ballet', which affects the clarity of your report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Regarding the charts', 'Furthermore'). The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the transition between the location data and the dance type data. While the paragraphing is sufficient, the logical flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is clearer throughout the text. The overall arrangement is coherent, but the connections between points are not always smooth.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have used an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'percentage', 'highest', and 'decreased'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that detract from the quality of the response. For instance, 'bullet' is used instead of 'ballet', and 'deceasing' is used instead of 'decreasing'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise, topic-specific vocabulary. To reach a higher band, focus on using more varied synonyms for 'highest' and 'lowest' and ensure correct spelling of technical terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The charts provides', 'private studios has') and awkward phrasing ('the charts it is given that'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences that make the text harder to read. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests that you need to focus on basic grammatical accuracy and sentence construction. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free will help improve your score in this criterion.
