Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the two charts. However, the information is presented in a disorganized manner, making it difficult to identify the main features or trends. The data points are often unclear or inaccurately described, such as the confusing phrasing regarding 'other community halls' and 'other private studios'. While you have included data, the lack of clear comparison and the failure to group information logically prevents a higher score. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant data points (e.g., the dominance of private studios) and comparing them clearly rather than listing every figure in a stream-of-consciousness style.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks effective paragraphing, appearing as two long, dense blocks of text. There is a lack of logical progression; the sentences are strung together with repetitive or misused cohesive devices like 'moreover' and 'however', which do not always reflect the logical relationship between ideas. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different locations and age groups. To improve, use clear topic sentences for each paragraph and ensure that each sentence flows logically into the next using a variety of linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'student', 'classes', and 'percentage'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'domestrate the percentage' and 'propably', which hinder clarity. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. You should aim to use more varied terminology to describe data, such as 'account for', 'constitute', 'the majority of', or 'a significant proportion', rather than repeating 'is' or 'are' throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the chart illustrate'), missing articles, and run-on sentences that lack proper punctuation. The sentence structures are largely simple or repetitive, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is almost entirely absent, which makes the text difficult to parse. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure, including the use of full stops and commas, and ensure that your verbs agree with their subjects.
