Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified and reported the main features of both charts. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data from the pie and bar charts. The comparison between locations and dance types is well-handled. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are presented with complete accuracy; for instance, you mentioned '900 students' for ballet, but it is important to ensure the distinction between the total and the age-specific breakdown is always clear. Overall, you have covered all parts of the task well, providing a logical summary of the information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that group information by chart type. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Conversely', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas effectively. The progression of information is easy to follow. To improve, ensure that the transition between the two charts is even smoother; currently, the shift from the pie chart to the bar chart is functional but could be more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different data sets, which aids readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information clearly. Phrases like 'highest proportion', 'least preferred option', and 'age bracket' are used accurately. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'comprise of' (which should be 'comprise' or 'consist of') and 'type of dance classes' (which should be plural). While you use some less common vocabulary, increasing the variety of reporting verbs and descriptive adjectives would elevate the response further. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'pupil between the age' (should be plural 'pupils' and 'ages') and 'at 600 whereas pupil...' (inconsistent pluralization). Additionally, there are minor punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary comma after 'Community halls'. However, these errors are infrequent and do not cause confusion for the reader. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and you demonstrate good control over the structures needed to describe statistical data.
