Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance styles. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The report lacks a clear overview that synthesizes the data effectively, and the description of the data is occasionally disjointed. For instance, the mention of 'after that' and 'at that time' is confusing and does not accurately reflect the data relationships. While the key features are identified, the comparison between the two charts could be more integrated. To improve, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing figures, and focus on comparing the data points more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by repetitive and awkward transitions. Phrases like 'After that' and 'The last one is' are used mechanically, and the connection between sentences is often weak. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of information. For example, the transition between the location data and the dance types is abrupt. To reach a higher band, use a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Regarding') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus that links logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'the charts illustrates about' and 'covers almost 18 percentage area'. The repetition of 'about' and 'at the' suggests a limited range of lexical items. While the student successfully identifies the categories (Ballet, Tap, Modern), the descriptive language is basic. To improve, incorporate more precise reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'account for,' 'represent,' 'the majority,' or 'a significant proportion,' and avoid repetitive structures when describing percentages or quantities.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The charts illustrates'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or poorly constructed, such as 'The charts also give information about age group.' There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which limits the ability to demonstrate grammatical control. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the use of complex sentences to combine related ideas more fluidly.
