Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you identify some key features of the charts, the analysis is incomplete. You mention the pie chart data but fail to provide a clear overview or a logical summary of the bar chart. The description of the bar chart is fragmented and lacks a clear comparison of the age groups across all dance styles. To improve, ensure you provide a clear introduction, a distinct overview of the main trends, and detailed supporting paragraphs that cover all data points provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks clear paragraphing, which makes the information difficult to follow. There is no clear logical progression between the description of the pie chart and the bar chart. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'followed by' and 'while if we'. The lack of sentence variety and proper punctuation further hinders the flow of information. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks for each chart and employ a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Regarding') to connect your ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'most attending place' and 'college base studios' are unnatural and imprecise. You rely on basic descriptors and struggle to use academic vocabulary appropriate for a data summary task. There are also issues with word formation, such as 'statistical explanation'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing data, such as 'predominant', 'account for', 'proportion', and 'fluctuate', and ensure that your word choices are contextually accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing sentences are often run-on or poorly punctuated. For example, 'its the best way statistical explanation of information mostly used in research' is grammatically incorrect and irrelevant to the task. You also struggle with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. To improve, focus on constructing clear, error-free simple sentences before attempting more complex structures, and pay close attention to basic punctuation and capitalization.
