Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both charts. You successfully highlight the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance styles. However, the analysis is slightly hindered by inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state that 11-16 year olds joined tap dance at 'approximately 450', whereas the chart shows 400. Additionally, the comparison between age groups could be more precise. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are transcribed accurately and that the overview clearly synthesizes the relationship between the two charts rather than just listing facts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on location and age respectively. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'whereas' and 'the second largest', though some transitions feel mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct datasets. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly and ensure that the progression of information feels natural rather than like a list of statistics.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrate', 'favorable', and 'respectively'. However, there is persistent misuse of word forms and collocations, such as 'most of the young student choosed' (should be 'students chose') and 'highest joined dance class' (should be 'most popular'). The repetition of 'choosen' and 'joined' limits the sophistication of your writing. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure correct word forms are used consistently. Avoid repeating the same verbs throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent errors in verb tense and subject-verb agreement, such as 'choosed' instead of 'chose' and 'age groupe' instead of 'age groups'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and hyphens. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, proofread specifically for verb tense consistency and ensure that plural nouns are correctly formed.
