Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the main features of both charts. You successfully identified the most significant data points, such as the 48% for private studios and the age-related trends in dance preferences. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the two charts where possible, rather than treating them as separate entities. The overview is clear, but some of the data reporting is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that the most striking differences and similarities are highlighted more analytically rather than just listing the figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Whereas', and 'Following this' are used to link ideas. However, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are issues with punctuation, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'Primarily, the'). Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring consistent spacing would enhance the readability and coherence of the text. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be more refined to better group the comparative data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'percentage', and 'age range'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'catagories', 'hightest', and 'collage-based' (instead of college-based). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, you should aim for more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of key terms. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the information, but it lacks the sophistication and variety required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'do arranges', 'the pie charts shows', 'the highest numbers of student'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors would be beneficial.
