Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features of both charts and provided a clear overview. You accurately reported the data for the locations and the dance types, making relevant comparisons between the two age groups. For instance, you correctly noted that ballet is more popular among younger children while modern dance is preferred by the older group. To reach a higher band, ensure you avoid minor inaccuracies in data reporting; for example, you stated 'around 600' for ballet under 11, whereas the chart shows 500. Precision in data transcription is essential for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized into four paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on each chart. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'In terms of', and 'Turning to', which help the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and periods (e.g., 'classes ,whereas' and 'common.in'). Improving your control over punctuation and using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'represented', and 'accounted for' correctly. However, there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'the named such as' and 'in youngsters', which sound unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive sentence structures. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the information clearly, incorporating more sophisticated academic vocabulary would help you move into the higher band range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are frequent errors in punctuation and capitalization, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters (e.g., 'while the bar chart', 'in terms of') and missing spaces after punctuation marks. These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to basic sentence mechanics and ensure that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly to demonstrate better control over your grammatical range.
