Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of both charts, but the analysis is often hindered by inaccurate reporting of data and confusing interpretations. For instance, the student describes 'private studios' as having a ratio of 48 percent, which is clear, but the subsequent descriptions of the bar chart data are difficult to follow and sometimes inaccurate. The attempt to link the two charts at the end is a positive feature, but the conclusion drawn is not clearly supported by the provided data. The response lacks a clear overview, which is essential for a high band score in Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is presented as a single, long paragraph, which significantly impacts the logical flow and readability. There is a lack of effective paragraphing to separate the analysis of the two charts. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'while' and 'at the end', they are often used repetitively and sometimes incorrectly, leading to a mechanical feel. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of data points across the different age groups.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'conserved' instead of 'depicted', 'stodio' (spelling error), 'well contaminated growth', and 'convent ratio'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe statistical trends or chart features. Many phrases are awkward, such as 'well know locations' or 'less amount of ratio'. To improve, the student needs to focus on using accurate terminology for describing data and improving spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the pie chart shows that the most preferred location... are private stodio'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures. The student relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as run-on sentences and incorrect clause connections. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with a lack of proper sentence boundaries throughout the text.
