Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of both charts, identifying key trends such as the dominance of private studios and the age-related participation patterns in dance styles. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The data reporting is occasionally imprecise, such as using 'six hundred plus' instead of specific figures, and the comparison between the two charts is not explicitly linked. While the main features are selected, the lack of a clear, analytical overview of the relationship between the two datasets limits the score. To improve, ensure all data points are accurately transcribed and provide a more cohesive synthesis of the information provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Therefore' in the second paragraph is used incorrectly to introduce data that does not follow as a logical consequence of the previous sentence. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, such as 'In contrast, the number of students participate in different types of dance classes', which lacks a clear connection to the preceding paragraph. Improved use of linking words and better referencing would enhance the flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'children's' (possessive error), 'the most classes scheduled by' (missing verb/preposition), and 'estimation participation in count'. The range of vocabulary is limited to basic descriptive terms. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using more precise terminology for reporting data, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', or 'the majority of', and ensure correct word forms are used throughout.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The pie charts illustrates'), missing articles ('in towns of Australia'), and sentence fragments ('Where six hundred plus students...'). The range of structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar—such as pluralisation and verb tense—prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
