Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the most popular location (private studios) and compare the age groups for ballet, the description lacks precision. For instance, you mention 'around 48%' and 'over 24%', but the comparisons between categories could be more analytical. The overview is present but slightly awkward in phrasing. To improve, ensure you clearly highlight the most significant trends and provide accurate data comparisons rather than just listing figures. The final paragraph is incomplete as it fails to mention the other dance types (tap and modern) in sufficient detail to provide a comprehensive summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'At a cursory glance' and 'ultimatly' (spelling error) are used, but the transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between the location types and the percentages could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally would help elevate the score. Paragraphing is present but the internal flow within paragraphs needs more logical progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'highly young people' (incorrect collocation) and 'least place'. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'interact with that place' and 'attain by young individuals'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary limits the score. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'dance classes attain by young individuals' (passive voice error) and 'tap dance are similar' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalisation. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct sentence structure will be beneficial.
