Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, including both location and dance types. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. The first paragraph attempts to describe the locations but uses confusing phrasing, such as 'Under 11 students accounted for higher proportion... in school halls and community halls,' which does not clearly link the data to the specific categories. While the key features are identified, the comparison between the age groups in the second paragraph is better, though the interpretation of the data is occasionally imprecise. To improve, ensure that the data points are clearly linked to their respective categories and that the overview provides a more accurate summary of the overall trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hampered by awkward transitions and unclear referencing. For example, the phrase 'Observing further' is a mechanical attempt at a transition, and the connection between the first and second paragraphs is weak. Some sentences are disjointed, making it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. While the use of paragraphs helps structure the response, the internal cohesion is often faulty. Using a wider range of cohesive devices, such as 'in contrast' or 'similarly,' would help improve the flow and clarity of the comparisons.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'witnessed substantial growth shows 48%' and 'the number of students... was very less.' These errors in collocation and word choice occasionally impede the clarity of the message. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'accounted for,' 'represented,' or 'a significant proportion,' and avoid repetitive structures. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs would also help to convey the data more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'college-based studios shows'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. Some sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'To conclude it, there was huge difference in ballet and modern dance students but there no significant difference in tap dance students,' which lacks a verb in the second clause. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and affects the overall fluency of the writing.
