Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of both charts and provided relevant comparisons. You covered the distribution of dance class locations and the breakdown of dance types by age group. However, the response lacks a clear overview that synthesizes the data effectively. The overview provided is somewhat fragmented and contains grammatical errors that obscure the meaning. To improve, ensure your overview highlights the most significant trends, such as the dominance of private studios and the clear age-related preferences for specific dance styles, rather than just listing details. The data points are generally accurate, but the presentation could be more analytical.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition into the bar chart analysis is abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between the charts and the specific data points is weak. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the data points and categories. You use terms like 'proportion', 'categories', and 'significant number' appropriately. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'illlustrates', 'collage-base', and 'as compare in'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'predominant', 'account for', or 'fluctuate', and ensure accurate spelling of key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('charts illlustrates', 'it describe'), missing articles ('in private studio'), and awkward sentence construction ('their is under 11'). While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are persistent enough to affect the overall fluency. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly before nouns. Practicing complex sentences with accurate punctuation will also help increase your score.
