IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart and bar graph demonstrate the data on the location and types of dance classes attend by young people in Australia.

Overall, the pie chart illustrates the largest proportion of private studios where dance classes are held, while the bar graph showed an upward trend in Ballet dance by under 11 as opposed to Modern dance in Australia.

In the term of pie chart, private studios accounted for the significant share of 48% on the location of dance classes. This is followed by school halls (after-school) occupied a considerable 24%. By contrast, community hall & other and college-based studios comprised relatively to minor fractions contributing 18% and 10% respectively.

Looking at the detail of bar graph, Ballet held the top position by under 11, with a value 600 students on X-axis as compared to Modern by a sharp decline to reach 300 students. This is followed by a stark contrast between the Ballet and Modern by 11-16, with a value of 300 and 600 students respectively. On the other hand Tap constituted by 450 pupils (under 11) which dipped slightly to 420 by 11- 16.
