Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the location and types of dance classes. You successfully identified the main features, such as private studios being the most popular location and ballet having the highest numbers for the under-11 age group. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a cohesive synthesis of the data. For instance, the comparison between age groups in the second paragraph is slightly confusing due to unclear phrasing. To improve, ensure that you group information logically rather than just listing data points, and focus on highlighting the most significant trends or contrasts more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Similarly', 'Moving forward', and 'On the other hand'. However, some transitions feel forced or slightly unnatural, such as 'Moving forward' in a descriptive context. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear; for example, 'the bar chart which are the types of dance classes' is grammatically awkward. While the overall progression is clear, the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated to improve the flow between sentences and ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main points. You use some topic-specific terms like 'private studios', 'college-based studios', and 'age group'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'college-bases studios' (should be 'college-based') and 'most number of students' (should be 'highest number'). The range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic descriptive language. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations to describe trends and data points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Private studios has', 'college-based studios has') and article misuse ('in the Australia'). Some sentences are also structurally awkward, such as 'Most of the area which is 48% covered by private studios'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the clarity of your writing. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and refining your sentence construction will significantly improve your score.
