Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the location and types of dance classes. You successfully identified the main features, such as private studios being the most popular location and ballet having the highest participation among younger students. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, you list percentages and numbers without consistently making meaningful comparisons between the categories. To reach a higher band, ensure you group data points to highlight trends or significant differences rather than simply listing the data provided in the charts. The overview is present but could be more concise to better reflect the overall trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Similarly', 'Moving forward', and 'On the other hand' to link sentences. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Next comes the bar chart which are the types of dance classes'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when describing the bar chart lines. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between the description of the two charts would enhance the flow and coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'percentage', 'participation', and 'reserved'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'college-bases studios' (should be 'college-based') and 'the below line represents' (should be 'the lower line'). The phrasing 'most of the area is 48% covered' is also slightly awkward in this context. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe data trends, such as 'account for', 'constitute', or 'predominate', and ensure that your word forms are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'young people attending in the Australia' (should be 'in Australia'), 'college-based studios have the least percentage of 10%' (should be 'the lowest percentage of 10%'), and 'modern students under 11 has less students' (should be 'have fewer students'). These errors occur frequently but do not significantly impede communication. To achieve a higher band, work on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of comparative and superlative adjectives.
