Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the charts but fails to complete the task, as it ends abruptly mid-sentence. While you identify some key features, such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in ballet, the analysis is incomplete. You also include subjective speculation—such as attributing the low usage of community halls to 'cleanness'—which is not supported by the data provided. In IELTS Task 1, you must report only the information presented in the charts without adding external opinions or assumptions. To improve, ensure you cover all data points clearly and objectively, and always complete your summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow is hindered by the incomplete ending. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Conversely', and 'In addition' to link ideas, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is interrupted by the abrupt conclusion. The referencing is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the two charts could be smoother. To reach a higher band, ensure that your paragraphs are balanced and that your ideas lead to a natural, completed conclusion rather than stopping mid-thought.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'illustrate', and 'infrastructure'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'primary contribution' instead of 'primary location' or 'resulted poor infrastructure' instead of 'resulted from poor infrastructure'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the word 'lecture' is incorrectly used to describe dance classes. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary is used in the correct context to convey your meaning accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'a ballet demonstrated most highest number' (incorrect superlative usage), 'college-based studios has established' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'age between 11 and 16 experienced' (missing preposition). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the overall control of complex structures is inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will significantly enhance your score.
