Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of both charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the highest and lowest locations, the comparison of the bar graph is inconsistent. For instance, you mention specific numbers for modern dance but fail to provide clear data for ballet or tap, making the report incomplete. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a clear overview that highlights the most significant trends across both charts and support all claims with accurate data points. Avoid vague descriptions like 'slight difference' without referencing the actual figures provided in the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes repetitive. Phrases like 'In comparison of' and 'according to the bar graph' are used as simple signposts rather than tools to link ideas fluidly. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between different dance forms is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher score. You rely on basic terms like 'highly interested' and 'consists', which are repeated. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'young gen' and 'college based studios'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to data reporting, such as 'predominant', 'account for', or 'fluctuate'. Additionally, ensure you use accurate terminology for the data presented, such as 'proportions' or 'age brackets', rather than informal phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'school halls consists'), missing articles (e.g., 'In comparison of all places'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'there a slight difference'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency. Increasing the use of error-free complex sentences will also help improve your score in this criterion.
