Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. The description of the charts is confusing, and the data points are often misidentified or poorly explained. For instance, the reference to 'peak up point 48' and 'very weak weakness' lacks clarity and fails to provide a meaningful comparison between the two age groups. The response does not clearly distinguish between the categories or the age groups, making it difficult for the reader to understand the information presented in the charts. To improve, you must clearly identify the main trends and use specific data points to support your comparisons rather than listing numbers in isolation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay lacks a logical flow. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as 'Third concept' or 'final last class', which do not effectively link the information. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow which age group or location is being discussed. The introduction is also repetitive and does not clearly set the stage for the report. To improve, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that contributes to the overall summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. Phrases like 'peak up point', 'very weak weakness', and 'school hails' (likely meaning 'halls') indicate a lack of control over appropriate terminology for describing data. The word choices are often repetitive or misused, which hinders the clarity of the report. There is little evidence of the ability to use less common lexical items or precise collocations related to data interpretation. To improve, you should learn and practice specific vocabulary for describing charts, such as 'proportion', 'category', 'significant', 'majority', and 'minority', and focus on using them in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This is chart'), incorrect word forms, and awkward sentence structures. Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary complexity to convey information clearly. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and there is a lack of variety in sentence structure. While the meaning can sometimes be inferred, the high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including the correct use of articles, prepositions, and verb tenses before attempting more complex structures.
