Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the location distribution and the age-related participation in dance types. However, the report is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends. For instance, it lists percentages for locations without synthesizing the data to highlight that private studios are the dominant venue. Similarly, the age-related data is presented as a list of figures rather than a comparative analysis. To reach a higher band, you should group information more effectively and provide a clear opening statement that summarizes the key trends rather than just describing the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is repetitive and lacks sophistication. The use of cohesive devices is quite basic, relying heavily on phrases like 'Now if we discuss' or 'So according to the chart'. These transitions feel mechanical rather than natural. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of 'their' instead of 'there' and the repetitive structure of the sentences. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on the words provided in the prompt. For example, the phrase 'taking part in' is used repeatedly to describe participation. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'interrogate' (which is inappropriate for data analysis) and 'their' used in place of 'there'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To improve, try to use synonyms and more academic collocations to describe data trends, such as 'account for', 'predominate', or 'a significant proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('The chart below illustrate'), incorrect punctuation (lack of spaces after commas), and awkward phrasing ('the people who are under 11 are taking part in the ballet dance are nearly 600'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. While the meaning is usually conveyed, the lack of control over basic sentence structure and punctuation prevents a higher score. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors will help improve your accuracy.
