Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The pie charts compare the locations in which dance classes are held and the types of dance classes attended by young people in an Australian town, with the participants divided into two age groups: those under 11 and those aged 11–16.
Overall, private studios were by far the most common venue for dance classes, whereas college-based studios accounted for the smallest proportion. In terms of dance styles, modern dance attracted the largest number of students overall, while ballet showed the most pronounced difference between the two age groups.
Almost half of all classes (48%) were held in private studios. School halls were the second most common location, accounting for 24%, followed by community halls at 18%. By contrast, only 10% of classes took place in college-based studios.
Turning to the types of dance classes, modern dance was the most popular, with more than 800 students in total. Approximately 300 of these were under 11. Participation in tap classes was more evenly distributed between the two age groups, with the figures for both groups falling within the range of 400 to 500 students. Ballet, however, displayed a substantial age-related difference, as the number of children under 11 was considerably higher than the number of students aged 11–16.
