Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both the pie and bar charts. You successfully highlight the most popular and least popular locations and compare the dance preferences across the two age groups. However, the analysis is slightly mechanical, and some data points could be more accurately described. For instance, stating '48% of percentage' is redundant and slightly confusing. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons are more analytical rather than just listing figures. The overview is present but could be more integrated to better highlight the key trends across the entire dataset.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on the two charts. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In contrast', and 'Meanwhile' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by repetitive sentence structures and some mechanical transitions. For example, the transition 'At last' is not the most natural way to conclude a paragraph in this context. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the same group') is consistently clear would enhance the overall cohesion of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'enrolled'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. Phrases like '48% of percentage' and 'group age from 11-16' are slightly unnatural. Additionally, there is some repetition of basic verbs like 'choose' and 'preferred'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'predominate', 'constitute', or 'a significant majority', and ensure that your collocations are idiomatic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, such as 'Private studios is' (should be 'are') and 'modern dance classes was' (should be 'were'). There are also minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'Bar chart' (needs 'The') and 'children age under 11' (should be 'children aged under 11'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage.
