IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie chart below illustrates the location of dance classes whereas the bar chart shows the types of dance classes categorized by age group in a town in Australia.

Overall, it is evident that the largest proportion of dance classes were held in private studios whereas college-based studios accounted for lowest percentage of dance classes. However, the highest number of people who took ballet classes were under the age of 11.

Private studios accounted for the largest proportion of the dance classes at 48%. Followed by School halls where 24% of the dance classes were held after school hours. The figure for community halls and other locations stood at 18% while college-based studios accounted for only 10%.

Regarding types of dance classes, 600 children under the age of 11 took ballet classes, the figure was half as high for people aged 11-16 at 300. In contrast, 500 people aged between 11 and 16 enrolled for modern classes compared with 300 people under the age 11. Furthermore, almost 450 children under the age of 11 took tap classes while, the figure was slightly lower for individuals aged 11-16 at 400.
