Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both charts. You successfully highlighted the most popular location (private studio) and the most popular dance type (ballet). However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview. While you mention some data points, the comparison between the two age groups in the second chart is slightly confusing. To improve, ensure you group data logically and provide a more cohesive summary of the trends rather than just listing percentages. The information is generally accurate, but the lack of a clear synthesis of the data prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'The first is...', 'The second type is...'). There are also issues with referencing; for instance, 'it a bit low than school studio' lacks a clear subject. The flow between sentences is somewhat disjointed, and the transition between the two charts could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple descriptors like 'mostly used', 'very low', and 'small'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'college base studio' instead of 'college-based studio' and 'kinds of dances of teenagers performed'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'predominant', 'account for', 'a significant proportion', or 'marginal'. Expanding your range of vocabulary will allow you to describe the charts with more sophistication and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the the location', 'school hall contain 24%', and 'it a bit low than school studio'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of comparative structures (e.g., 'lower than' instead of 'low than').
