Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, including both dance types and locations. However, the presentation is essentially a list of data points rather than a summary. There is no clear overview or introduction, and the data is not synthesized or compared effectively. For instance, stating 'the number of students... are 700' is unclear as it does not specify if this is a total or a specific category. To reach a higher band, you must group data logically and provide a clear summary of trends, such as identifying which dance style is most popular overall or which location is the primary choice for students.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks paragraphing, which is essential for a clear structure in an IELTS task. The text is written as a single block, making it difficult to follow. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'Moving on' and 'Speaking about', the flow is mechanical and repetitive. The lack of an introduction and a concluding summary further hinders the logical progression of ideas. To improve, you should organize your response into at least three paragraphs: an introduction, a body paragraph for the dance types, and a body paragraph for the locations.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use phrases like 'number of students' and 'age group of', which makes the writing feel monotonous. There is little attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends or proportions (e.g., 'the majority', 'a significant proportion', 'the least popular'). The phrasing 'modern type of dance classes' is slightly unnatural. To improve, try to vary your word choice and use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'account for', 'represent', or 'the highest proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the message. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the number of students which are participating... are 700' (should be 'is 700'). Additionally, the use of punctuation is poor, with double periods ('..') used throughout. The sentence structures are mostly simple and lack the complexity required for higher bands. You should focus on using a variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences, and ensure that your subject and verb agree correctly.
