Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing both charts. You successfully identified the main features, such as private studios being the most popular location and ballet being the most popular dance type. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, you list the percentages and numbers without consistently making meaningful comparisons between the categories. To reach a higher band, ensure you highlight the most significant differences or trends rather than just reporting the data point by point. The overview is clear, but the comparison of the age groups in the bar chart could be more integrated to show a deeper understanding of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the two charts. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the location data and the dance type data is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'Community halls and other are attended by 18%'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus will help improve the overall progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'dominant sector', and 'proportion'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'which are recently attented' should be 'which are currently attended', and 'ballet are the most famous' is better expressed as 'ballet is the most popular'. There are also minor spelling errors like 'mojority'. To improve, try to use more precise vocabulary for describing data trends, such as 'account for', 'constitute', or 'predominate', and ensure that your subject-verb agreement is consistent when discussing data categories.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'Proportion of students visited School halls' should be 'The proportion of students attending school halls', and '300 students learned that falls under 11' is awkward and grammatically incorrect. Additionally, there are issues with verb tense and preposition usage, such as 'watch that are from 11-16'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative clauses.
