Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given pie chart and bar graph provides the information about the location and types of dance classes which are currently attending by young people in a town in Australia.
Overall, the maximum proportion is covered by private and studios, whereas in bar graph, ballet dance class is less preferred by 11-16 age groups of students.
In the pie chart, the number of students give priority to private studios, with the percentage of 48%, which is the highest percentage than school halls, just about an half of the percentage of private studios. In addition to this, only 10% of students like the college based studio’s location of dance classes.
However, in the bar graph, ballet dance classes are more preferred by under 11 age group of students rather than tap and modern types of dance classes. While, an opposite trend can be noticed in case of 11-16 age group of scholars.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of both the pie chart and the bar graph. You provided a clear overview and highlighted relevant comparisons, such as the preference for private studios and the contrasting trends between age groups. However, the response is quite brief and lacks a detailed analysis of all data points. For instance, you mention 'school halls' but do not provide the specific percentage, and the description of the bar graph could be more precise regarding the specific values for tap and modern dance. To reach a higher band, ensure you include more specific data points to support your observations and provide a more comprehensive summary of the trends presented in the visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this', 'However', and 'While' to connect ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the progression of ideas could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more natural. For example, the transition between the pie chart analysis and the bar graph analysis could be more fluid to better integrate the two distinct sets of data.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'priority', and 'trend'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'currently attending by young people' (should be 'attended by') and 'scholars' (which is not typically used to refer to children in dance classes). The phrase 'just about an half' is also slightly awkward. To achieve a higher score, aim for more precise vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are appropriate for the context of a formal report. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and adverbs would also help to enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. For example, 'The given pie chart and bar graph provides' should be 'provide' (subject-verb agreement), and 'which are currently attending by' is grammatically incorrect. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you move into a higher band.
