Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the key data points, such as the 48% for private studios and the 600 students in ballet, the comparison between the two charts is missing. You have listed the data rather than synthesising it into a clear report. To reach a higher band, you should group the information more logically and ensure that the 'main features' are highlighted with a clear overview. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not add any value to the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inappropriate. For example, 'Any how' is informal and incorrectly used to transition between sentences. The flow between ideas is sometimes disjointed, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase '10 percent of each' which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly improve the logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is repetitive and lacks precision. You frequently use the word 'organise' or 'attend' to describe data, which limits the sophistication of your response. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'bullet classes' (likely meaning 'ballet') and 'Modem' (likely meaning 'modern'). To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms for 'increase', 'decrease', 'proportion', and 'percentage', and ensure that technical terms related to the charts are spelled correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Issues include incorrect subject-verb agreement ('these charts shows'), improper use of articles ('the school time'), and run-on sentences or comma splices. The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capital letters in the middle of sentences. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would help increase your score.
