Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of both charts, including the distribution of locations and the trends in student numbers. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear overview or summary of the data. While the report identifies the highest and lowest points, the comparison between the two charts is weak, and some data points are described in a confusing manner, such as the description of the 16-year-old age group. To improve, ensure that the main trends are clearly highlighted in an introductory overview and that comparisons are made more logically rather than just listing figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is divided into two paragraphs, which is appropriate, but the internal flow is disjointed. There is a lack of effective cohesive devices to link ideas, making the progression of information feel mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Moreover' and 'conversely' are used, but they do not always connect the sentences logically. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when discussing the age groups and dance styles, which makes it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. Improved use of linking words and better paragraph structure would enhance the clarity of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'highest', 'lowest', and 'number of students'. There are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'illustrat' instead of 'illustrates' and 'num' as an abbreviation. The phrasing is often awkward, such as 'covers the less space of Australia', which does not accurately convey the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends and proportions, such as 'predominant', 'account for', 'fluctuate', or 'a significant proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The pie chart illustrat'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'are belongs to'), and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity, such as the run-on sentences in the second paragraph. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common slips in tense and word form.
