The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The charts illustrate the locations and types of dance classes that young people in an Australian town are currently attending.
Overall, the largest proportion of students is attending dance classes in private studios. In terms of dance types, modern dance is the most popular among those aged 11-16, whereas ballet is the most popular among children under 11.
Looking first at the locations, private studios account for the largest proportion, at 48%, followed by school halls (after school), which account for 24%. However, the figure is 18% for young people learning dance in community halls and other, while the percentage for college-based studios is relatively lower, standing at 10%.
Regarding the types of dance classes, the highest number of students aged under 11 learning ballet stands at around 600, whereas the number of students aged 11-16 learning the same type of dance stands at 300. For tap, the number of students stands at approximately 450 for those aged under 11, while the figure for the 11-16 age group is slightly below 450. Finally, the number of students aged under 11 learning modern dance stands at around 300, whereas the figure for those aged 11 to 16 is considerably higher, at approximately 520.
