Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of both the pie chart and the table. You have successfully identified the most popular location (private studios) and the age-related trends for dance types. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, you mention 'double ratio' for private studios compared to school halls, which is mathematically accurate, but the description of the table data lacks a clear comparison between the two age groups beyond stating they are similar for tap dance. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and integrate the data points more fluidly into your comparisons rather than just listing them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'In addition to this', and 'Overall'. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and punctuation errors, such as the sentence fragment 'which is 48%.' and the repetitive structure of the final paragraph. The referencing is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the two charts could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are complete would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main points clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'private studios', 'school halls', and 'ballet dance classes'. However, there is a lack of variety and some inaccuracies in word choice. For example, 'table shoes' is a clear typo for 'table shows', and 'most prefer' is grammatically incorrect (should be 'most preferred'). You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'most prefer' and 'mostly prefer', which limits your score. Using a wider range of synonyms and more precise collocations would help you achieve a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'ballet dance classes are most prefer' instead of 'are most preferred') and incorrect sentence construction (e.g., 'private studios have double ratio than the school halls'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of full stops where commas or conjunctions would be more appropriate. To improve, focus on mastering basic verb forms and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing auxiliary verbs.
