Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie charts demonstrates the location, while the bar chart demonstrates the types of dance classes young individuals are currently attending in a town in Australia.
Overall, the private studios shares the most of the proportion of location of classes, while the location of school halls are just half of the percentage of the private studios. The other two locations are community halls and college-based studios. Meanwhile, ballet classes have been recorded as the most attended class by young people having ages under 11.
As can be seen in the chart, private studios holds 48% of the toal proportion, while 24% of the percentage is accounted for school halls, followed by community halls and college-studios, with the proportions of 18% and 10%, respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both the pie and bar charts. You successfully highlight the most popular location (private studios) and compare it with others. You also provide specific data points for the dance classes across the two age groups. However, the report could be improved by ensuring the comparison between the two charts is more integrated. For instance, you could have grouped the data more effectively to show trends rather than listing figures. While the main features are clear, some of the data reporting is slightly repetitive, and a more concise summary of the key differences would elevate the response to a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'meanwhile', 'as can be seen', and 'in contrast' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more balanced. The second paragraph is quite short, while the third is dense with data. Improving the flow between sentences by using more varied linking phrases would enhance the overall coherence. Referencing is generally clear, though some phrasing, such as 'the other two locations are...', could be more smoothly integrated into the preceding sentence structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'respectively'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'shares the most of the proportion' (should be 'accounts for the largest proportion') and 'toal' (spelling error). You rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'type of dance classes', which limits the sophistication of the response. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and ensure collocations are natural, such as using 'the majority of' instead of 'the most of the proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical slips, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('pie charts demonstrates', 'private studios holds') and awkward phrasing ('having ages under 11'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that participial phrases like 'having ages' are used correctly or replaced with simpler, more accurate structures like 'aged under 11'.
