Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The student attempts to address the prompt by reporting information from the provided charts, noting figures such as 48% for private studios and 10% for college-based studios. However, the response fails to fully cover all parts of the visual data, contains several factual inaccuracies and contradictions (such as stating college-based studios are "most common" despite reporting them as the minimum value), and suffers from significant under-length. At 113 words, the response falls short of the 150-word minimum requirement, which directly impacts the level of task completion and pulls the score down.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into brief paragraphs, including a rudimentary introduction and conclusion. However, the overall progression is weak and disjointed. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes repetitive or misused, such as "The minimum value the pie chat was..." and confusing transitional phrases like "Overall, the studios are the most popular location... while college-based studios are most common." Referencing and logical connections between sentences require significant improvement to achieve clear overall progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The student uses a very basic and limited vocabulary range closely tied to the prompt, such as "chart," "information," "locations," and "values." There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including "pie chat" instead of "pie chart" and "Australia town" instead of "an Australian town." The lack of control over less common vocabulary and frequent lexical inaccuracies mean the response sits firmly within the lower-mid band range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammatical structures attempted are largely basic simple sentences, with frequent errors in punctuation, preposition use, and sentence construction. Examples of errors include missing prepositions ("provides the information about" vs "provides information about") and comma splices or run-on structures ("The highest value of the pie chat was the private studios, it was 48% and..."). Complex structures are rarely attempted accurately, resulting in frequent errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
