Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of both charts, successfully identifying the dominant venues such as private studios and presenting numerical data for the dance types across different age groups. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in reporting, such as describing '48% respectively' when only one percentage is given for private studios. Furthermore, the response falls slightly short of the 150-word minimum, containing 148 words. This under-length impacts the overall development and completeness of the task, capping the score for Task Achievement at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into distinct paragraphs, starting with an introduction, followed by an overview, and body paragraphs dedicated to the different charts. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore' are used to structure the text, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or forced. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'considering by the age group'. Overall, the logical progression is generally maintained, supporting a Band 6.0 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'percentage', 'studios', 'community hall', and 'age group'. However, there are noticeable word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'teenager' instead of 'teenagers', 'number of classes are higher' instead of 'numbers', and '600 hundred'. Less common lexical items are attempted but lack precision. These vocabulary errors do not completely impede communication, resulting in a solid Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including comparative forms and prepositional phrases. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, such as missing articles ('number of classes are higher' and 'low in college based studios'), subject-verb agreement issues ('number of students are larger'), and awkward preposition use ('group group under 11'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors places this performance firmly at Band 5.5.
