Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to cover both charts regarding the location and types of dance classes by age group. However, the information is presented with significant inaccuracies and a lack of clear synthesis. For instance, the percentages quoted for locations (e.g., private studios at 48%, college-based at 10%) misinterpret the visual data, and the figures for age groups are also inaccurately reported. While the writer attempts to select and report main features and comparisons, the data is not accurately represented, pulling the score down to Band 4.0 according to the descriptors for misreporting key information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The response has an overall structure with paragraphs dedicated to different parts of the prompt, but the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing phrasing, such as 'Categorically speaking after remaining the number of students under 11...'. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes incorrectly, leading to confusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak. Referencing is often unclear, resulting in a score of 4.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The student uses a very basic and repetitive vocabulary, relying heavily on simple verbs and adjectives like 'utilized', 'wide range', and 'small number'. There are frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'the location of private studios which is most escalate utilize' and 'meduim range'. Less common vocabulary is attempted but misused, causing strain for the reader at times. This reflects the characteristics of Band 4.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The student attempts some complex sentence structures, but these are frequently faulty and fraught with grammatical errors. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The pie chart demonstrate'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'most escalate utilize'), and missing prepositions. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also poorly managed, with many run-on or fragmented clauses. Because errors are frequent and occasionally obscure meaning, the writing falls into the Band 4.0 category.
