Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of both charts, presenting data on both the locations and types of dance classes. Key information is reported, such as private studios having the highest percentage at 48% and college-based studios being the lowest at 10%. Comparisons are attempted, noting differences between age groups in terms of dance style preferences (e.g., ballet vs. modern dance). However, the overview is somewhat weak, as it only summarises the first chart and misses an overarching summary of the second chart. Furthermore, there are some minor data inaccuracies and awkward paraphrasing, such as mentioning specific student headcounts instead of general trends where appropriate. Nevertheless, the response successfully addresses the core requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The text is logically arranged into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview paragraph dedicated to locations, and a final body paragraph discussing dance types. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions and relationships between ideas, such as "Overall," "While," and "On the other hand." However, paragraphing could be structured more cleanly, and referencing is occasionally mechanical or faulty, as seen in phrases like "also places at 24%" and abrupt transitions between sentences in the final paragraph. Progression is present, but the overall flow feels a bit disjointed due to grammatical friction and slightly repetitive connective structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying general percentages and comparative ideas such as "significant amount of percentage," "least percentage," and "popular." The student attempts less common vocabulary like "curtently" (intended as currently) and "intrest," but encounters noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as "places at" instead of "stood at" or "accounted for." While these lexical inaccuracies and slight awkwardness in phrasing occur, communication is not impeded, and the range is sufficient to convey the statistical information required.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating subordinate clauses introduced by conjunctions like "while" and "that." However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("The graph illustrate"), spelling mistakes ("curtently", "intrest", "peope", "almoat", "reapectively"), and missing prepositions or incorrect verb forms ("showed not much intrest in it attending only 300 students"). Punctuation and sentence boundaries occasionally break down, leading to fragments or run-on structures. These errors require some effort to decode but do not completely obscure the meaning.
