The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The pie chart shown in the question illustrates the types of locations used as dance classes in a town in Australia, along with their percentages. The subsequent horizontal bar diagram shows the different types of dance forms and the number of students enrolled to them, categorised into two segments of students with age under 11 and students of age 11 to 16.
Overall, it can be observed that almost a half of the dance classes are arranged in private studios. The next in line of the most popular locations is the school halls where dance classes are arranged after school hours. Also, we can see that Ballet is the most popular dance form amongst students with the age of under 11, followed by Tap and Modern. However, for students with the age between 11 to 16, the trend is exactly the opposite.
To begin with, we can observe that 48% of the dance classes are organised in private studios. School halls are also a popular location with 24% of the classes held there. But college-based studios are not as popular, hosting only 10% of the classes. The rest are arranged in community halls and other locations.
In terms of popularity of the dance forms, Ballet is preferred by around 900 students of the town, within which approximately 600 are of age under 11 years. Tap dance is preferred by just over 400 students each from the abovementioned categories. In contrast, Modern dance form is preferred by over 500 students from the age group of 11 to 16, significantly higher than their counter parts of age under 11 with around 300.
