Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address both parts of the prompt by describing the location of dance classes and the types by age group. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the student states 'the largest number of under 11 is 600 for Ballet and least number is 300 for modern', which is correct, but later claims 'the largest number of 11- is 520 for modern and least number is 300 for modern' (misreporting tap dancing for 11-16 which is 420). The overview is attempted ('highest proportion of location... in private studios'), but overall the response suffers from inadequate development and data misinterpretations, aligning best with a Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into paragraphs with basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor referencing and mechanical or inaccurate linking phrases, such as 'dance classes at prive studios have maximum percentage that is 48 and minimum percentage at collee base studios which is 10 percent.' Paragraphing is used to separate the two charts, but internal cohesion is weak and repetitive, placing this performance at Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms ('highest proportion', 'maximum percentage', 'number') and makes frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'infomationa' instead of 'information', 'prive' instead of 'private', 'collee' instead of 'college', and 'oher' instead of 'other'. Less common lexical items are attempted but are generally flawed, resulting in a Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response shows a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty or ungrammatical, such as 'the highest proportion of location of dance classes in private studios and for lowest proportion of dance classes in College-based studios.' Errors in articles, prepositions, and verb forms are frequent throughout the text, causing occasional difficulty for the reader, which fits the Band 5 criteria.
