Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart illustrates the proportion of the location of dance classes while the horizontal bar graph represents the popularity of various types of dance classes; ballet, tap and modern, among the age groups of the young people of Australia's towns.
Overall, private studios were the most popular location among the public whereas, colllege-based studios were mostly neglected. Additionally, ballet and modern types of dances showed the contrasting patterns among both age groups
Private studios were demonstrated as one of the most famous locations for dance classes (48%) whereas the school and community halls jointly had 42% of dance classes. However the college-based studios had observed the lowest contribution in dance classes.
Ballet was more popular among under 11 people (almost 600) as comapare to the elder (300) ones. In contrast to this, modern dance had attracted the 11-16 age group (550) more rather than young children who were under 11 (300). Moreover, tap had experienced the balanced preference among both age groups.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by reporting on both the pie chart and the horizontal bar graph. An overview is provided, highlighting the main trends such as the popularity of private studios and the contrasting age preferences for ballet and modern dance. Key features are selected and supported with accurate data, such as private studios at 48% and ballet being more popular among children under 11 (approx. 600) compared to older teens (300). There are minor lexical inaccuracies in describing the data, such as stating 'ballet and modern types of dances showed the contrasting patterns among both age groups' when tap actually showed a balanced preference, but overall the response successfully covers the prompt requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organised with a clear introduction containing an overview, followed by body paragraphs dedicated to the location of classes and the types of classes. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'Overall', 'whereas', 'Additionally', and 'In contrast to this'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the visual data. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and referencing between sentences could be smoother in places, such as the sudden shift into specific data points without a stronger introductory clause.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'proportion', 'popularity', 'neglected', and 'balanced preference'. However, there are some noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'colllege-based' (spelling error), 'among the age groups of the young people of Australia's towns', and 'elder' instead of 'older'. Despite these occasional inaccuracies and spelling slips, communication is not impeded.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating relative clauses and comparative forms (e.g., 'Ballet was more popular among under 11 people... as compare to the elder ones'). There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including spelling/typographical issues ('colllege-based'), punctuation slips, and preposition/article inaccuracies ('the college-based studios had observed', 'as compare'). Nevertheless, the majority of sentences are understandable, and these errors rarely impede communication.
