Student answer (Band 5.5)
The Pie chart depicts the location and kind of dance classes concurrently occurred by Teenagers in a town in Australia. Overall Private studios has been the top choice among young individuals, while institute-based studios are less popular. Ballet has been the preference for most candidates especially by students under the age of 11 while adolsence above the age of 11 seems to driven more towards Modern genre; favouring Modern the most followed by tap dance and ballet being at last; on the contrary, young adolsence seems less likely to join Modern classes. Surprisingly, tap dance tends to the second option for both age groups. The chart lucidly illustrates that after Private studios, School halls are the place where classes are held the most while college rooms are not considered that much however Community halls and other small studios also hold an adequate amount on the chart at 18 percent.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student attempts to address both charts by mentioning the location of classes and the types of dance by age group. However, the response is impacted by the length requirement not being met, falling just short of the 150-word minimum at 149 words. While the main features are touched upon—such as private studios being the most popular location and tap dance being the second option for both age groups—some details are imprecise or confused. For instance, the text states that 'adolsence above the age of 11 seems to driven more towards Modern genre; favouring Modern the most followed by tap dance and ballet being at last', which is generally accurate according to the chart, but the expression of data lacks a fully clear overview and precise comparative figures. Overall, the task is addressed partially, earning a band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is written as a single, dense paragraph rather than being organised into a logical essay structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and overview. This lack of paragraphing severely hampers the overall progression and logical presentation of information. Cohesive devices are minimal or awkwardly applied, with transitions like 'on the contrary' and 'Surprisingly' used loosely. While ideas are related to the visual data, the lack of spatial and structural separation between the two distinct charts makes the text difficult to follow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, leading to a choppy reading experience. This warrants a band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'concurrently occurred', 'preference', and 'adequate amount'. However, there are notable lexical errors, inappropriate word choices, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'adolsence' instead of 'adolescents', 'institute-based studios' modifying the data source, and 'at last' instead of 'last'. The phrase 'concurrently occurred' is unnatural in this context. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the general meaning of the charts, positioning the response at a band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors and awkward structures, such as 'Private studios has been the top choice' (tense and agreement error), 'seems to driven' (missing auxiliary verb 'be'), and run-on sentences with excessive semicolon/comma usage like 'favouring Modern the most followed by tap dance and ballet being at last; on the contrary, young adolsence seems less likely to join Modern classes.' These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, though they do not completely obscure the intended meaning. This performance fits the band 5.0 descriptors.
